HC asks UP govt to explain steps taken to tackle dengue,

The Allahabad High Court today asked the Uttar Pradesh government the strategies it has adopted for prevention and control of vector-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya.
The division bench comprising Justice V K Shukla and Justice M C Tripathi passed the order, while directing the state's Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) to furnish details of the number of patients afflicted with these diseases who may be admitted in government or private hospitals across the state.
The court fixed December 19 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
The order came after B P Mishra, a High Court advocate, who recently lost his son Piyush to dengue, had filed a PIL in this regard.

Expressing anguish over the "untimely death of a young legal practitioner", the court also asked the Division Commissioner of Allahabad to conduct an inquiry into the death and submit his report on the next date of hearing.
The High Court had last month rapped the Samajawdi party-led state government for its "non-action" on dengue prevention.
