In furtherance to its earlier orders, the Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to review the sanctioned strength of students and correspondingly, review the number of teachers required to be provided for higher education.
The Lucknow bench of the court also directed the state to apprise it as to by what modality, the said direction would be implemented.
A division bench of Justice Ajay Lamba and Justice Akhtar Husain Khan passed this order on a writ petition, pending for compliance of earlier judgment and orders passed on it.
On March 1, 2013, the court had directed the state government to provide teachers, keeping in view the sanctioned strength of students as done prior to August 2000, after taking into account various relevant laws.
It had been specifically directed that the state government would ensure that number of teachers should be such that every section of every subject has a teacher to impart education in different years of the discipline to meet requirement of qualitative higher education.
On April 3, 2015, an affidavit of Anil Garg, secretary, higher education, UP, had been filed indicating further compliance of direction issued in judgment dated March 1, 2013, which was taken on record.
It was stated on behalf of the state government that the matter of creating 1,236 teaching posts is under active consideration of the government.
AAG Bulbul Godiyal stated that the matter would be considered by the Cabinet within a month.
The court while listing the matter for May 14, 2015, directed that decision of the cabinet and further steps initiated for employing teachers be conveyed to the court on that date.
