HC bench agitation: Lawyers boycott extended up to Jan 3

Work in courts across 17 western districts of Uttar Pradesh will continue to be disrupted as the lawyers have decided to extend their agitation for a high court bench in the region till January 3.
Advocates have been on the cease-work protest since November 13 this year.
"The High Court Bench Action Committee (associated with the agitation) will take out a foot march from Meerut to Gandhi Samadhi in the national capital on December 23, the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Charan Singh, to press for its demand," President of the committee D D Sharma said here.
"The committee has also decided that the boycott by lawyers in 17 districts will continue up to January 3," he said.
The decision was taken by the committee in its meeting held in Muzaffarnagar yesterday, he said, adding that the future course of action will be decided on January 3 in Meerut.
Lawyers from 17 western Uttar Pradesh districts, including Meerut, Saharanpur, Bijnore, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Aligharh, Baghpat participated in the meeting yesterday, he said.
Lawyers from western Uttar Pradesh have been demanding setting up of a bench of the Allahabad High Court in the region for the convenience of the litigants.
At present, the Allahabad High Court has a bench in Lucknow.
