A rift today came to light in the local Bar Association after some members decided to go against their president and continue with their strike over the demand for a high court bench in western Uttar Pradesh.
After Bar Association chief Maheshwar Nath Chaturvedi had called off their strike, a section of local advocates said they were not in favour of withdrawing the stir and would carry on with the same till Sept. 17.
"The section of the advocates who have decided to continue the strike have got no right to do so," Chaturvedi said.
"We called off the strike in the interest of litigants and that is final," he added.
However, a large group of advocates held a meeting chaired by Mathuresh Sharma, the vice-president of the Bar Association, where they decided that the strike would continue till Sept. 17, when a final decision on it would be taken at a General Body Meeting of the members.
