The petitioners sought a direction from the court to treat them as candidates having been selected under the quota.
The First Bench, comprising acting Chief Justice R.K.Agrawal and Justice M.Sathyanarayanan, said cut-off marks obtained by the candidates belonging to MBC category are less than the cut-off marks of the last candidates selected in the category.
The petitioners sought admission for MBBS course, alleging they had been denied admission unfairly because of the second counselling after the state got additional MBBS seats from Medical Council of India, which was not properly conducted.
It will be not only against students who are meritorious than the petitioners but also affect the reservation component of other categories, which will have a cascading effect, the bench said.
