Directing a re-investigation, the Madras High court today flayed police for not properly investigating a case relating to the death of six members of a family after some unidentified persons set ablaze their hut in Ramanathapuram district in 2012.
A case was registered by the Uchipuli Station SI after six members of a family were charred to death when some miscreants set ablaze their hut at Thoppuvalasai in Ramanathapuram district on September30, 2012.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the way in which police handled the investigation relating to the case, Justice S Nagamuthu of the Madurai bench directed a re-investigation into the case and said the Ramanathapuram SP should supervise the re-investigation and submit a report before the court on June 25.
The petitioner Sujakani, an accused, had pleaded that she should be discharged from the case.
Investigation revealed that a dispute over a small portion of land had led to the killing and seven persons were arrested in connection with the case and charge sheet filed.
The court had also summoned them.
Meanwhile, Sujakani claimed there was no link between her and the case and filed a discharge petition in the Ramanathapuram District and Sessions court. However, the court dismissed the plea following which she filed the present appeal.
