HC grants bails to Deepmoni Saikia

The Gauhati High Court today granted bail to MBBS student Deepmoni Saikia who was arrested in connection with the killing of Dr Sarita Tasniwal of Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh, on May 9 last.
Justice C R Sarma, after hearing the bail application and after going through the case record, allowed bail to Saikia as the prosecution agency has not filed a charge sheet against him even after custody of 89 days.
The Court also noted that the prosecution has not filed the charge sheet before the trial court till date.
Deepmoni, a second-year PG student of Obstetrics and Gynaecology department of AMCH, was arrested on May 16 on the charges of plotting and killing Sarita (28) in the doctor's duty room in the ICU of the department.
Sarita's body was recovered on a bed in the duty room with a disposable surgical knife stuck on the left side of the neck.
