A man, who claimed to be a US citizen and a neurologist-cum-criminal lawyer by profession, was today directed by the Delhi High Court to file a response as to why contempt proceeding will not be initiated against him for his "outrageous and contemptuous " conduct in the court.
Issuing a notice to Adarsh Kant Kapoor, a bench headed by Justice Kailash Gambhir sought his reply by November 28 and said "rhe conduct of Kapoor was highly outrageous, undignified and contemptuous. In a fit of rage and anger, he picked up his file and left the court amidst hearing of the matter and while leaving he uttered...
"Which words are also demonstrative of the fact that he has no respect and regard for the courts. The said conduct of the respondent(Kapoor) is highly contemptuous, reprehensible and reflective of his tendency to scandalise the court and undermine its majesty and dignity."
The bench, also comprising Justice Indermeet Kaur, appointed senior advocate Vikas Pahwa as amicus curiae to assist the court.
Taking a serious view over Kapoor's behaviour in the court, the bench said "...In most audacious manner, he left the court by saying that no Indian court can pass any direction against him..."
The court also took note of Kapoor's argument that he works for CIA and he has been provided with certain equipments through which he can tape record and videograph everything without being visibly noticed by any person and directed Kapoor to be present in the court on the next date of hearing.
The bench passed the order while hearing a reference from a single judge for initiation of contempt proceedings against him for recording the court proceedings without the court's permission in March this year.
