The Delhi High Court today sought responses of the Director of Education and Commissioner of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on a contempt plea alleging non-compliance of its direction to admit in government schools the eligible candidates out of the 81 out-of-school students living in Yamuna Khadar area here.
Justice V K Shali issued notices to Padmini Singla, the Director of Education (DoE), and the EDMC Commissioner and sought their responses as to how many of the 81 students have been admitted in schools.
The court has listed the matter for further hearing on January 28, 2015.
The order was passed on the contempt petition filed by social activist group Social Jurist, through advocate Ashok Aggarwal, seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against Singla who heads the Directorate of Education.
The petition has alleged that the Directorate of Education did not comply with the court's order despite it being brought to the department's attention by way of written representations and a legal notice.
The petition has alleged that DoE has not complied with the high court's order of September 17 when the government was directed "to have the said children or such of them as may be found eligible admitted to the neighbourhood schools in a class for which they may be entitled to".
The court's September 17 order was passed on a PIL filed by Social Jurist alleging that 81 children in the age group of 6 to 14 years and residents of Yamuna Khadar have been denied admission by Delhi government/EDMC schools in the area.
