The petitioner S.Rajarathinam said government should introduce Tirukural (considered magnum opus of Tamil saint-poet Thiruvalluvar) as a separate subject so that they could learn it thoroughly.
Justice R.Mahadevan of the Court's Madurai Bench said the petitioner had made the Home Secretary and the Secretary of Tamil Nadu Development and Information department as respondents, though actually he should have made the Director of School Education as respondent.
The judge also said no doubt Tirukural touched all subjects and issues relating to the human being, and if one was thorough with it, he could be a complete man. However, the views of the Director of School Education should be sought and hence he should be impleaded.
