The Uttarakhand High Court today sought the stand of the state assembly secretariat on a plea challenging the legality of 64 appointments made in the Vidhan Sabha last year during the Harish Rawat government.
A division bench of Chief Justice K N Joseph and Justice Alok Singh issued notice to the secretariat returnable within three weeks, lawyer Kartikeya Hari Gupta who represented the state assembly in the court told PTI.
The notice was served to Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha secretary on a petition filed by Bageshwar resident Rajesh Chandola challenging the legality of the appointments made by the state assembly administration between January and December 2016 when Congress was in power in the state with Harish Rawat at the helm.
The petitioner wanted a notice to be sent personally to the then State Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal during whose tenure the alleged appointments were made but the court turned down the request, saying there was nothing personal about it.
