The division bench of Chief Justice K M Joseph and Justice VK Bisht served the state government with the notice directing it to file a counter affidavit on the PIL claiming that thousands of victims of Kedarnath tragedy, who lost their lives in 2013, have not been cremated till date.
In the Kedarnath tragedy, more than 3,500 people lost their lives whereas only 450 bodies were retrieved,Delhi resident Ajay Gautam contended in the PIL.
In his prayer, Gautam asked the court to direct the government to arrange for the recovery and cremation of the rest of the people who went missing in the tragedy.
The division bench asked the state to file a counter affidavit as early as possible after which the matter will be disposed of.
The final hearing on the matter will take place next month.
