HC orders notice on plea seeking action against cinema owners

The Madras High Court today issued notice to the state government on a petition seeking a direction to take action against cinema owners in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu who are reportedly planning to collect "excessive" ticket charges for the upcoming Surya starrer 'Singam 3@ S3'.
Justice T Raja issued notice to several government authorities, including the Principal Secretary (Home Cinemas), returnable in two weeks.
In his petition, G Devarajan submitted that despite an order passed by the government fixing the maximum and minimum rates, cinema theatre owners were collecting more than what was fixed for newly released movies.

The petitioner cited his previous plea filed in connection with Rajinikanth starrer 'Kabali' and said several theatres were not printing their name and amount on the tickets "purposefully to cheat the public and government when any new movie casting a big actor is released."
"The theatre owners are swindling the money of the public and the same is going to be done even when the above movie is released," the petitioner said and prayed for a direction to the authorities concerned to take action on "this cheating practice.
