Taking exception to a man's attempt to record the court proceedings without its permission, the Delhi High Court today ordered immediate seizure of his electronic gadget.
Justice V K Shali directed the Registrar General of High Court to "seize" the tape recorder and asked him to examine the electronic item and file a report on it.
Before the judge started hearing his plea to allow him for videography of the court proceedings in his case, Dr Adarsh Kant Kapoor placed a tape recorder on the table without court's prior permission and began his arguments.
When the judge objected to his act and asked him to hand over the tape recorder, Kapoor refused to comply with the judge's direction.
Finally, the court called the security personnel who restrained Kapoor from recording the court proceedings. His recorder was impounded.
Kapoor, who claimed to be a US citizen and a Neurologist-cum-criminal lawyer by profession, in a petition challenged the trial court's December 15, 2012 order dismissing his civil suit to grant permission to him to do videography of the judicial officers and their staff in and outside the court.
He contended that he has witnessed several instances of mal practices in various court rooms in India.
