Head constable Manjit had allegedly set 18-year-old Inderjit, an employee of a scrap dealer, on fire on Tuesday night after the latter refused his demand for a wine bottle, police said today.
Inderjit, who suffered severe burns, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, his employer Dharmender said, adding "his condition is stable".
According to police sources, Manjit reached near a liquor outlet beside the scrap dealer's shop and asked Inderjit to get him a bottle of wine.
Soon, the head constable fled the spot, a police officer said.
