Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the National Health Policy is "transformative" and will greatly benefit the poor and the middle class.
"Yes it will. The policy is comprehensive and transformative," he said in response to a tweet by someone who said the policy will mark a paradigm shift in Indian healthcare system.
Replying to a tweet by another person that it help a lot specially the poor and middle class families, the Prime Minister said, "Indeed. The poor and middle class will benefit greatly from this & will get access to quality healthcare."
The policy, which was unveiled yesterday in Parliament by Health Minister J P Nadda, sets ambitious targets like raising of public expenditure on health care to 2.5 per cent of GDP from the current level of about 1.5 per cent.
It also entails introducing yoga much more widely in schools and work places.
The policy also envisions increasing life expectancy to 70 years from 67.5 years and proposes free diagnostics and drugs at all public hospitals
To a tweet by someone on recent poll results, Modi said, "Humility always helps, be it in victory or defeat."
Someone talked about the need for humour in public life. "We surely need more humour in public life," he responded.
