Most parts of Haryana and Punjab reeled under heat wave conditions, even as Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, got much needed relief after being lashed by rains and hailstorms.
Hisar in Haryana recorded 42 degree Celsius, the MeT Department said.
Karnal recorded a high of 40.8 degree Celsius while Ambala's maximum settled at 40.2 degree Celsius.
In Punjab, Ludhiana recorded 42.4 degree Celsius, two notches above normal. Patiala, too, had a hot day at 41.5 degree Celsius while Amritsar's maximum settled at 40.8 degree Celsius.
Union Territory Chandigarh experienced a hot day at 41.2 degree Celsius, two notches above normal limits. However, the city was hit by a dust-storm in the evening which was followed by sharp spell of rain and hailstorm. The temperature dropped by few notches after rains in the evening.
Dust storm or thunderstorm with squall, with a wind speed exceeding 45 kmph, is likely to occur at isolated places tomorrow, it said.
