Heat toll rises to 5 in Odisha

The heat toll in Odisha this summer mounted to five today with a person succumbing in Angul district.
This is the third heatstroke death reported from Angul. Two others had died in Balangir and Bargarh districts, Special Relief Commissioner's office said.
The searing heat intensified in most parts of the state during the day with Titlagarh becoming the hottest place at 44.5 degree Celsius, the Met office said.
The mercury breached the 40 degrees mark in at least 14 places of the state.
Titlagarh was followed by Balangir which recorded 44 degrees, while the mercury shot up to 43.6 degree celsius at Hirakud, 43.4 degrees at Jharsuguda, 43.3 degrees at Angul, 43 degree celsius at Sambalpur and 42 degrees at both Bhawanipatna and Malkangiri, it said.
Talcher recorded a maximum temperature of 41.2, while the temperature was 40.6 deg C at Sonepur, 40.5 deg C at Sundargarh and 40 degree celsius at both Keonjhargarh and Sonepur, it said.
Both Bhubaneswar and neighbouring Cuttack city recorded a maximum temperature of 39.2 degree celsius, the met office said.
