Heat wave condition continues in western Odisha

Western Odisha continued to suffer heat wave condition and the death toll in heat-related incidents in the state mounted to 17 today.
The maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius was recorded at Sambalpur followed by 42 degrees at Celsius Titlagarh, MeT office sources said.
The other places which suffered the brunt of heat wave condition in the region were Bhawanipatna (41.8), Hirakud (41.6), Bolangir and Sonepur (41.5 each), Jharsuguda (41.1), Angul (41.1) and Talcher at 40.2 degrees Celsius.
There was no significant change in the weather condition in Bhubaneswar as the maximum temperature was recorded at 39.5 degrees Celsius against yesterday's 39.7 degrees Celsius.
The relative humidity was 89 per cent, while Cuttack recorded 38 degrees Celsius.
The sunstroke deaths meanwhile increased to 17 with a fresh case being confirmed in coastal Balasore district, the Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office said adding the number of suspected heat-related deaths, has increased to 174.
The MeT office has forecast thundersquall at some places in Odisha in the next 48 hours.
