Heat wave continues in Kerala, 2 die of suspected sun stroke

Heat wave conditions continued in Kerala today with two more deaths reported due to suspected sun burns, even as Palakkad recorded the highest temperature of 41.5 degrees celsius in the state.
The two deaths were reported from Kottayam and Kannur districts, police said.
65-year-old coconut climber Joy Joseph died soon after reaching home from work this afternoon at Thadikadavu in Kannur district, while 42-year-old Sabu, who had gone for fishing, also collapsed and died. Both had sun burns, police said.
Temperature in Malampuzha in Palakkad district crossed 40 degrees celsius for the fourth consecutive day today while Kannur and kozhikode districts recorded 38.5 degrees Celsius Punalur recorded 36.6 degrees C.

While Thiruvanthapuram city recorded 35 degrees C, the airport recorded 34.3 degrees C, IMD, Regional office sources here said.
The lowest temperature in the state was recorded at Kochi Airport at 34.2 degrees C.

Some parts of the state received scattered rains with Punalur recording 3 cm, Ernakulam south and Mavelikkara 2 cms each.
The Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh sweat under
intense heat as the day temperatures has begun crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark in the last few days.
Kurnool recorded 41 degree Celsius, Kadapa too was close to the 40-degree mark. Temple-town Tirupati saw mercury rising above the 40-degree Celsius mark today.

In Rajasthan, Barmer was the hottest today in Rajasthan with mercury touching 43.4 degrees Celsius, followed by 43 degrees Celsius in Churu.
In Harayana, Narnaul residents witnessed 42 degrees celsius heat, nine notches above normal. Hisar experienced a hot 38.3 degree celsius, five degree above normal and Ambala was close at 37.2 degree celsius. Karnal's maximum temperature was 36.4 degree celsius, six notches more than usual.
In Punjab, Patiala registered a maximum of 37 degree Celsius, seven notches more than normal while Ludhiana also recorded seven degrees above normal 36.7 degree Celsius.
Amritsar's maximum settled at 35 degree Celsius, six notches above normal limits.

Chandigarh recorded a high of 35.9 deg C, four notches above normal.
Pleasant weather prevailed today in Kashmir as the maximum temperature in the summer capital Srinagar settled four degrees above normal despite overnight intermittent rains.
Srinagar recorded a high of 22.2 degrees Celsius - four degrees above normal during this part of the season, a spokesman of the MeT department said. The minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar was 10.1 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal.
The city received a rainfall of 2.7 mm till 0830 hours today. Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir, which serves as the base camp for annual Amarnath yatra, recorded a high of 20.6 degrees Celsius and a low of 5.6 degrees Celsius, the spokesman said.

The maximum temperature recorded at famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was 6.4 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature remained at 0.6 degrees Celsius, officials said.
