Heat wave kills 5 in Pakistan

At least five persons, including four children, have died due to intense heatwave in Pakistan's Sindh and Baluchistan provinces.
Many parts in Pakistan are facing scorching heat with mercury going as high as 49 degrees Celsius.
"Four children died due to the heat in Tharparkar," said a health official in Karachi.
The fifth death occurred in Sibi Baluchistan where five others fell unconscious due to the heatwave as temperatures today soared to 49 degrees Celsius in the area.
In Sindh's Larkana and Jacoabad districts temperatures have gone up to around 48 and 49 degrees Celsius respectively.
According to the meteorological office of the province, mercury rose to 44 degrees Celsius in Dalbandin, 46 in Lasbella, 45 in Turbat and 39 degrees Celsius in Quetta in Baluchistan.

Even the port city of Karachi experienced its hottest day of the season with temperature soaring to 44 degrees Celsius.

While heatwave continues in Pakistan's Punjab province, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi received pre-monsoon rains late today, bringing some relief to the weary citizens.
Frequent power outages have also compounded people's woes and triggered protests in several cities.
Frustrated by the long power breakdowns at the start of the holy month of Ramazan, Angry protesters burnt tyres and also attacked offices and complaint centres of local power supply corporations.
Expressing his resentment over long power outages, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered top officials yesterday to take "all steps" to address the issue that has forced people to come out on the streets.
