Heat wave prevails in Odisha, Jharsuguda hottest at 42.8 deg C

Sweltering heat wave condition prevailed in most parts of Odisha today with the mercury touching 42.9 degrees Celsius at Jharsuguda, making it the hottest place in the state.
The mercury hovered above 40 degrees Celsius in at least eight places, mostly in western Odisha, while cloudy condition in the coastal areas of the state brought some respite from the scorching heat.
After Jharsuguda, both Sundargarh and Bhawanipatna recorded a maximum temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius, followed by 42.1 degrees Celsius in Titlagarh and 41.6 degrees Celsius at Hirakud, the meteorological centre here said.
Malkangiri recorded a maximum temperature of 41.4 degrees Celsius, while it was 41.5 degrees Celsius in Bhawanipatna and Sambalpur, 41.1 degrees Celsius in Sambalpur and 40.8 degree Celsius at Sonepur, it said.

The state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded 34.8 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature in neighbouring Cuttack city stood at 34.5 degrees Celsius, it said.
Meanwhile, the MeT office said there was a possibilty of thunder squall accompanied by hail and rain at one or two places in the state in the next two days.
