Heatwave conditions prevail in city, different parts of WB

The heatwave conditions continued to prevail in Gangetic West Bengal and western districts of the state making life miserable for the people, with mercury soaring to 43 degree in Sriniketan, but the weather office hinted at a welcome drop in temperature on May 23.
The maximum temperature in the state was at Sriniketan in Birbhum district at 43 degrees celsius, while the metropolis experienced another unusually hot day at 40 degrees, though it was 1.5 degrees lesser than yesterday's scorching 41.5 degrees.
The maximum temperature in Kolkata tomorrow is likely to hover around 39 degrees, the Met department sources said.

The situation is likely to change a bit for the better in the city, experiencing the longest heatwave condition in a decade, on May 23 with the Met department forecasting cloudy sky.
This is likely to bring down the maximum temperature and give some respite to the people, who are finding it difficult to carry on with their daily chores due to the dry and hot conditions.
There is, however, no forecast of rains yet in the perched Gangetic West Bengal and other western districts like Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore.
