Heavy rain hits normal life in Raj; mercury up in north

Mercury in most parts of north India hovered around normal even as torrential showers in the desert state of Rajasthan threw normal life out of gear in several parts.
It was a pleasant Sunday for the Delhiites with the sky remaining overcast and temperatures staying around the normal mark.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 33.2 degrees Celsius, which was normal, while humidity in air fluctuated between of 73 and 92 per cent.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city received 4.5 mm of rainfall in 24 hours till 8:30am today.
In Uttar Pradesh, moderate to heavy rains were witnessed in isolated areas even as the monsoon remained normal over most parts of the state, particularly the eastern region.

Many major rivers, including Ganga, Sharda and Ghaghra are in spate at a number of places, a Central Water Commission report said.
According to a MeT forecast, rain or thundershowers may occur at many places, with possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places during the next 48 hours.
