Heavy rains disrupt normal life in Shimla

Heavy rains today lashed the capital city, throwing life out of gear, while a massive landslide endangered the old OPD block of the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC).
The town received 26 mm rainfall in less than two hours. The overflowing nallahs were chocked and the roads virtually flooded, bringing normal life to a halt.
Some other parts of the state experienced moderate to heavy rainfall. Pachhad was wettest in the region with 87 mm rainfall, while Jogindernagar and Una received 55 mm and 45 mm rainfall respectively, followed by Palampur 34 mm rainfall, Dharamsala 29 mm rainfall, Mandi 17 mm rainfall, Gohar 16 mm rainfall, Baijnath 12 mm rainfall and Nahan 9 mm rainfall.
The local MeT office has warned of heavy rains at isolated places in mid and lower hills over the next 48 hours.
It forecast rains and thundershowers in lower and mid hills and rains or snow in higher hills over the next six fays up to August 31.
The minimum temperatures dropped marginally in the state, and Manali was the coldest in the region with a low of 13.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Kalpa 13.4 degrees Celsius, Keylong 15.3 degrees Celsius, Shimla 16.3 degrees Celsius and Dharamsala 17.0 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperatures also dropped by one to two notches, and Una was the hottest in the region with a high of 33.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhuntar 31.7 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar 31.4 degrees Celsius, Dharamsala 28.2 degrees Celsius, Solan 27.5 degrees Celsius and Shimla 22.2 degrees Celsius.
