Major rivers in Uttarakhand are in spate with the Ganga flowing at warning level in both Haridwar and Rishikesh after moderate to heavy rains lashed most parts of the state today.
According to a bulletin of the Central Water Commission here, the Ganga river is flowing at its warning level of 293 metres in Haridwar whereas in Rishikesh it is flowing very close to the warning level at 339.50 metres and still rising.
Meanwhile, State Emergency Operation Centre said that in the past 24 hours moderate to heavy rains lashed a number of places with Ukhimath receiving the maximum 82.5 MM of rains followed by Didihat which received 73 MM of showers, Kotdwar (72MM) and Nainital (60MM).
Several roads, including national highways, are blocked by debris from landslips following rains.
Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway was blocked at Kakda, Rishikesh-Badrinath highway at Pipalkoti, Marwadi, Pagalnala and Patalganga.
Rishikesh-Gangotri highway is blocked at nearly half a dozen places including Gangnani, Naitala, Hailugad, Ganeshpur, Nalupani and Garampani whereas Yamunotri highway is clogged at Vadiya, Salai bend Junglechatti and Hanumanchatti.
Incessant rains have affected normal life as well as the Char Dham Yatra to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath with very few people visiting the Himalayan shrines to pay obeisance.
Eleven devotees left Sonprayag for Kedarnath today wheras only six pilgrims reached Yamunotri shrine yesterday.
