Here are some of the sidelights from the third International Day of Yoga celebrations in the national capital today:
-- Rains failed to dampen the spirit of yoga enthusiasts who gathered in large numbers at various parks and public places to mark the occasion.
-- LED screens at various venues across the city live telecast the function held at Lucknow where Prime Minister Narendra Modi led country-wide celebrations with around 51,000 people performing asanas at Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan. Three of the six screens at Red Fort malfunctioned due to rains.
-- The New Delhi Municipal Council had also mounted LED screens at three venues for the telcast of PM's programme from Lucknow. These LED screens, mounted at Janpath, Connaught Place and India Gate, had also telecast the Champions Trophy final in which India was defeated by Pakistan.
-- Union ministers M Venkaiah Naidu and Vijay Goel, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took part in the celebrations. NDA presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind, Goa governor Mridula Sinha and senior BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi also joined in.
-- The Delhi Police was on high alert after they received intelligence inputs about some terror outfits planning a "London-style attack" during the International Day of Yoga celebrations at Connaught Place here.
-- Over 10,000 participants and organisations including Moraji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), the Delhi Police, CISF, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, etc, participated in the common Yoga Protocol at Connaught Place.
-- Led by the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and other senior officers, as many 2000 police personnel performed yoga asanas at Ramlila Grounds in central Delhi.
-- Nearly 50,000 people including followers of Brahma Kumaris joined in celebration at the Red Fort Lawns.
