In a bid to attract more tourists to the Holy City of Amritsar, hundreds are at work to re-create a quintessential Punjabi village from 1950s.
The village will be ready within two months, and with this added attraction, the government is trying to retain tourists for at least three nights in Amritsar, a government release here said today.
The project will offer tourists a flavour of traditional Punjabi lifestyle, its culture, food and artifacts.
The Rs 12 crore state-funded project was taken up in 2010 following a MoU between the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board and city-based Guru Nanak Dev University.
Since Amritsar is widely regarded the focal point of tourism in Punjab with the Golden Temple and the flag-lowering ceremony at Attari/Wagah Border attracting thousands every day, this heritage village located on the outskirts of the city will prove to be an added attraction, the release said.
