Eastern region of NTPC today achieved the highest-ever power generation of 38,547 million units during the current financial year of 2017-18, a top official today said.
"Eastern region of NTPC today achieved the highest-ever power generation of 38,547 million units during the current financial year of 2017-18. The power generation has gone up by 4.57 per cent from the last financial year," Regional Executive Director (East-1) M P Sinha told reporters.
He was speaking at a press meet-cum-power sector appreciation programme here.
The Barh power station in Bihar has alone registered total generation of 9,160.61 million units which is 21.8 per cent more than the previous year, he said.
NTPC, with better coal management and increase in efficiency, has managed to reduce the power cost significantly at its Barh and Farakka power stations, Sinha said.
On new projects, the regional executive director said that NTPC successfully started commercial generation from the newly constructed Unit 3 and 4 (2X195 MW) from Stage II of Kanti Bijlee Utpadan Nigam Ltd (KBUNL) at Kanti, Muzaffarpur during the current financial year, Sinha said.
Commercial generation also started from Unit 1 and 2 (2X250MW) from Bhartiya Rail Bijli Company Limited at Nabinagar at Aurangabad, he said adding that work on three units - one each unit of 660 MW of Barh Stage I- is in progress and the first unit of three is planned to be commissioned in April 2020.
