Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today simultaneously launched Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana in the state as Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched these schemes from Kolkata.
Stating that these initiatives would be effective for achieving the target of financial inclusion, Singh said due to concerted efforts made by the government to implement Jan Dhan Yojana, over 8.50 lakh new bank accounts were opened in the state last year.
He added that launch of such ambitious financial schemes will give a push to the Indian economy by financial inclusion of the people in 115 cities of the country and Himachal is one of the state which launched it today.
The CM said that under the schemes, besides insurance to the workers in unorganized sectors, pension would also be provided to them.
"Our state has a strong network of banking with over 80 per cent bank branches in rural and far flung areas with 1.40 crore account holders," Singh said, and stressed on the need to ensure financial literacy up to village level so that maximum number of people can avail the benefits of such schemes.
Also present on the occasion, Union Health Minister J P Nadda said economic progress is a continuous process though sometimes, it keeps fluctuating due to ups and downs in marketing strategies and few external factors.
