The activists from Shiv Sena and All India Hindu Suraksha Samiti took out a protest march in the city, demanding immediate arrest of the assailants.
A case under sections 323 (causing hurt) and 295-A (deliberate acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class) of IPC was registered against the unknown assailants here Saturday last, a day after assault on the 'naga sadhu' by a few pedestrians, police said.
Hindu bodies alleged that their religious feelings were hurt by the assault and the assailants should be arrested at the earliest.
When contacted, DSP Jasbir Singh Rai said that since the assailants were not from local area, help of cyber crime experts and the police of other districts were being sought to arrest them.
