However, police said the covention organisers have changed the dates so as not to coincide with Ganesh Chathurthi.
The cadres of the Hindu outfits protesting before the suburban Selaiyur Police station claimed that permission for a religious convention by a Christian denomination would not be appropriate during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
A Christian mission had been propagating that a four-day 'grand religious' convention would be held at the Railway Grounds in East Tambaram here from August 28, which coincides with Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, they said.
A formal complaint had been lodged, he added.
Asked about this, Deputy Commissioner of Police (St Thomas Mount) P Saravanan said the Christian mission had changed the date of convention to avoid the meet during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
