HMD, GAVI to create awareness against unsafe injection use

Hindustan Syringes and Medical Devices (HMD) will partner with international group GAVI for the global campaign to tackle the pervasive issue of unsafe injection practices.
Gavi, a global vaccine alliance, brings together entities from both public and private sectors.
"It is a very proud moment for India that WHO has chosen India as the focus country to tackle the pervasive issue of unsafe injection practices," HMD joint director Rajiv Nath said in a statement.
According to the statement, World Health Organisation (WHO) has started a global campaign for safe injection practice.
The initiative is aimed at advocating the use of auto-disable syringes to prevent spread of diseases.

Globally, dangerous injection practices are estimated to have resulted accidental infections for 1.7 million people, the statement said.
