Hollywood stars Amy Schumer, Sam Smith, John Green and many others have expressed shock over the shooting at a Louisiana theatre during the screening of "Trainwreck".
Three people, including the gunman, were killed in the incident that left seven others injured.
Schumer, who stars in the film, was one of the first to react.
"My heart is broken and all my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Louisiana," the comedienne tweeted.
The shooting happened during a screening at the Grand 16 Theatre of the comedy, which also features Bill Hader and LeBron James. The movie was directed by Judd Apatow, who is yet to comment.
"ANOTHER shooting. What is happening. So sad. Thoughts are with the family's of those injured and killed," Smith tweeted.
"So sad to hear about the shooting. Prayers go to the victims and their families," boxer Sugar Ray Leonard wrote on Twitter.
Trump also offered his condolences. "Thoughts & prayers with everyone in Lafayette, Louisiana this evening," he wrote.
Green wrote on his Twitter page, "Came back to the hotel and saw the devastating news about the shooting in Lafayette. Sending my thoughts and prayers to all involved."
"Another movie theater shooting. What is the appropriate amount of time to wait before we start discussing gun control again. Oh, never?" American comedian Michael Ian Black tweeted.
"Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of the Lafayette shooting. My wife is from that area, and knows one of the injured. Hits home," said Jack Osbourne.
Timonthy Simons wrote, "We have put the rights of people to carry guns ahead of the rights of people (and children) to live. We have the country we deserve.
