Home Guards can't be given perks of regular govt servants: CM

Volunteers are registered in Home Guards to provide social services, and thus, cannot be given the perks of regular government servants, the Legislative Council was informed today.
In a written reply to a query by Vinayak Mete (Shiv Sangram), Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said along with other demands, Home Guards have asked the state government that they be given permanent duty for all days of the year.
Their other demands include that they be provided benefits and perks on lines with police officials and their services be regularised.
"Home Guards is a social service organisation which has been formed mainly to assist the police department. Since volunteers are registered to provide social services, they, thus, cannot be given the perks of regular government servants," Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, said.

He said the government also cannot ask them to provide services throughout the year.
