The state cabinet approved the policy for the elderly persons, above the age of 60, especially those living in rural areas.
The policy aims to ensure the well-being of senior citizens by providing them a legitimate place in society and helping them in leading financially, socially and physically dignified lives.
An age-integrated society would be also set up to provide shelter and protect the elders from abuse and exploitation.
In another significant decision, the cabinet adopted a policy to regularise services of contractual staff appointed by Rogi Kalyan Samities by converting them into government contract employees.
Under the policy, the employees would be eligible for regularisation after six years of contractual service.
