The explosion at the private residence of the Mizoram Parliamentary Secretary for Home last week was the handiwork of Manipur-based rebel outfit Hmar Peoples Convention (Democrats), police said today.
As per the confessions of H D Lalhmangaiha, who was arrested in connection with Friday's blast near the residence of Parliamentary Secretary Lt Colonel (retd) Z S Zuala, money had been given by the said outfit to carry out explosions in different parts of Aizawl town, police said.
Lalhmangaiha, who was arrested on Saturday, told the police that he was given money by HPC(D) 'Army Chief' Lalropuia for the explosions.
Accordingly, he employed Lalringthanga of Assam's Cachar district to carry out the orders, police said.
Lalringthanga, after his arrest from Vairengte on Mizoram-Assam border on Sunday morning, confessed that he exploded the bomb inside Zuala's residence and also near the incomplete house of Sinlung Hill Development Council chairman Hmingchungnunga in early July, they added.
Zuala was present in his home when the explosion took place but he escaped unhurt.
Mizoram Home minister R Lalzirliana had on Sunday said HPC-D had claimed responsibility for the two explosions and Lalringthanga had confessed to exploding 5 kg of gelatin at the behest of Lalhmangaiha, a known sympathiser of the outfit.
