HUA ropes in pvt player to help skilled urban poor get jobs

The Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry today roped in a private online service aggregator to promote jobs with a minimum assured monthly wages for urban poor trained under its skill development programme.
An MoU in this regard was signed between the ministry and UrbanClap today, an official said.
Under the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), skill training is provided to urban poor with an aim to reduce poverty.
The MoU signed in the presence of HUA Minister Hardeep Singh Puri will be effective from today. Under the MoU, the Ministry will share details of those imparted skill training with the UrbanClap.

The UrbanClap will bring together demand for domestic services and the urban poor skilled under DAY-NULM in 16 cities including Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, the official said.
The UrbanClap will also assure a minimum monthly earning of Rs 15,000 for plumbers, electricians and carpenters and Rs 25,000 for appliance repair technicians, beauty therapists and Spa therapists, he added.

Puri, while lauding the initiative, urged the UrbanClap to scale up the services to all 106 cities that have a population of five lakhs and above and state capitals, according to the official.

At present over 35 per cent of those skilled under DAY- NULM programme have found employment, the official said.
During 2016-17, 4,01,654 were given skill training while 1,39,970 have so far been skilled during the current financial year under the scheme, the official said.
