The breach developed in the wee hours yesterday after land adjacent to the canal service road was dug up by the Jal Nigam contractor for laying a pipeline
The breach was later plugged and the service road reconstructed.
"The service road, damaged in about 20 feet distance has been repaired after over 18 hours continous work. There has been no loss to human life or crop since the area is low lying," R K Chaudhary, Executive Engineer Mant Branch Ganges canal said.
"While the flow of water of the canal was reduced by opening Harnaul scape, Balanpur scape and Hathras branch of the canal, it was furtherminimised by the distribution of water through Gorai, Jarara, Bajna and Mursan distributors," Chaudhary said.
As a precautionary measure, a team of four persons are keeping close watch on the repaired service road and plugged breachround the clock.
