The conglomerate of various separatist groups, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, held a meeting here to discuss the prevailing situation and the way forward.
"Time has come when the government of India and its alliance partners should take into account the explosive Kashmir situation and look for ways and means to find a lasting solution to the issue rather than using its muscle power to crush the rightful struggle of the people," it said in a statement.
The separatist conglomerate said it is imperative to resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir to secure the future of the people of the entire sub-continent.
"Dialogue for the sake of dialogue cannot be helpful in solving Kashmir. The issue could be resolved only by involving all the three parties - India, Pakistan and Kashmiris - in a meaningful process of dialogue," it said.
"The aggressive political posturing by India has the potential to put the future of this region at stake. There is a need to start a meaningful exercise to resolve the issue instead of supressing the genuine struggle of the people of Kashmir by force," it said.
The Hurriyat said the meeting was held after the release of Mirwaiz from a prolonged house arrest and was attended by the executive members including Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Moulvi Masroor Abbas Ansari, Musadiq Adil, Mukhtar Waza and legal advisor Abdul Majeed Banday.
