As many as 282 youths, including 32 minors, were rounded by the South zone police here during its drive 'Operation Late Night Roam-Yos' which was carried out late last night and early this morning in a bid to check young ones and minors from roaming in the streets of Old City area and create nuisance.
Ten teams of police rounded up 282 youngsters (including 32 minors), who were given counselling in the presence of their parents, said Deputy Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana.
Those detained were from Charminar, Khilwath Tegalkunta, Jangammet, Engine Bowli, Chandrayangutta, Talabkatta, Santoshnagar, Madannapet, Hussainialam, Mirchowk and Reinbazar areas.
Some of them were nabbed while racing on motorbikes.
"Majority of youngsters and minors in the city are wasting their precious time in insignificant activities and getting addicted to unruly modern trends and bad habits instead of focusing on academic and professional careers," he said.
The police also raided hukka centres at Chandrayangutta and registered four cases against the managements for operating beyond permissible hours.
Police have earlier said that the recent death of Nabil, a city-based youth, in a street fight occurred because of lack of parental supervision.
The DCP said the south zone police will not hesitate to lodge cases against parents if their minor children are caught committing serious crimes with parents turning a blind eye.
