A group of Osmania University students today held a protest here against the Telangana government's decision to regularise the contract employees.
Police took 18 students into preventive custody.
The students marched towards Tarnaka Cross Roads near the varsity campus and tried to stage a road blockade, inspector AVR Narasimha Rao said.
Those taken into custody were later released, he added, denying some reports that there was a lathi-charge.
