As a director more fussy about scripts, tweaking the fine print over and over again, 'Madras Cafe' man Shoojit Sorcar says the prolonged sessions over the film's storyline helped his second debut Bengali production turn a never before tale about boy's adolescence in 'Bangla'.
"Open Tee Bioscope, is the first such film on adolescence in Bengali which talks about a boy's first kiss, first puff, first discreet look at a girl's face, in Bengali. It is a tale of teenagers who all grow up in family atmosphere in the company of elders and siblings," the Vicky Donor maker told PTI here.
"It is an honest film which me and director Anindyo Chattopadhyay thoroughly enjoyed as we went back to those days of laughter, insanity, heart break (not in that order always) but under the protective shield of para elders," he said.
Christening 'Open Tee Bioscope' as a 'cross-over film', Shoojit, who is planning to direct a film based on Mohun Bagan's historic IFA shield win against Britishers, said, "That era of para football tournaments during Indpendence day will take many of us 'down memory lane'."
About his association with Shantanu Moitra, he said, "The tuning matters. After Aparajita Tumi, Shantanu is the guest music director in this film and he has sung a melodious number. Me, Anindyo and Shantanu - we are a team together and the film is Anindyo's baby and me the baby-sitter"
About the role of a local political satrap, having references to the dominant ruling organization during those days, Shoojit said, "To be realistic we had to refer to the socio-political situation of Kolkata during that era of 90s"
Shoojit has plans to put the 'para' culture under scanner yet again in Bengali in foreseeable future. "This could be my own directorial venture and yes it will have vintage Bengaliness written all over yet again.
