The move to create such a pool is being considered as the ministry feels that information related to government's flagship programmes and initiatives can be communicated more effectively if there is a greater use of regional languages, a senior official said.
Sources said several important units of the Information and Broadcasting, which work to create awareness about government's work, do not such have a dedicated unit.
"There are several units like the Department of Field Publicity (DFP) or the Social Media Cell of the ministry who could benefit from such a pool. Often the government press releases are only in English and Hindi and even that could change if there are translators," an official said.
When contacted, I&B Secretary Bimal Julka said the ministry was mulling such a move to strengthen its outreach.
Earlier in the week, at the launch of 'India-2015' the annual reference book brought out by the government, Julka had said that the ministry is planning to bring out the publication in regional languages also and added that it is looking at a creating a pool of translators for this purpose.
