"I have a tendency of being honest...Brutally honest and often get into trouble because of this. But I believe it pays to be honest in the longer run," Sonam said at the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival here.
The actress was here to launch a book titled "The Front Row: Conversations on Cinema" by film critic and journalist Anupama Chopra.
"I always want my interviews to be interesting and fresh, you can't repeat the same things again and again. So, in order to be interesting I often end up sharing the most honest opinions which become controversies," she said.
"I hate being asked why did you decide to wear bikini in particular film. Its simple I had to shoot a swimming poll scene I could have worn a one piece but I wore a bikini because I have a tiny waist and I wanted to flaunt it. That's brutally honest again!" Sonam said.
The 29-year-old actress said that she still had not got used to people spreading rumours about her.
"I am extremely thin skinned. I get very stressed out. Though I have always tried to keep my personal life away from media and I try not to be affected by what is written against me, my brother and my father do have to face certain rumours and it bothers me," she said.
Drawing a contrast with yesteryear film industry, the actress said it had become imperative now to promote films well.
"We sometimes have promotion schedule which are longer than even the shooting schedules. Things have changed since the time when I joined industry seven years back. Being an actress is more than being a diva," she said.
She also talked about Chopra's book which is a compilation of conversations she had with Hollywood and Bollywood stars during her show TV show "The Front Row."
