Highlighting the need for safe and result-oriented operations, top officials of the Indian Air Force today reviewed the flight safety performance of the force with focus on handling airborne emergencies.
Addressing the annual Aerospace Safety Council meeting held at Air Force Station in Palam here today, AOC-in-C Air Marshal SS Soman AVSM VM highlighted the need for continued prioritisation of safe and result oriented operations.
The Headquarters Western Air Command also took stock of its operational and flight safety performance. The IAF flies close to two and a half lakh hours per year of which Western Air Command share is more than 25 per cent, a statement issued here said.
The quorum comprised senior functionaries of the HQ WAC and field commanders of its airbases.
DG (Inspection & Safety) Air Marshal S Neelakantan YSM VM reviewed the Flight Safety performance of the IAF with focus on situation handling and dealing with airborne emergencies.
The incident and accident rate has been showing a steady decline in the last 10 years, however, a word of caution was sounded by SASO Air Marshal BS Dhanoa YSM VM so as "not to let the guard down".
Bird hits remains a cause of accidents and needs the effective participation of the district administration at most places, they said.
The Airospace Safety conference comes close on the heels of the recently concluded Commanders conference of the IAF.
