The UPSC, which conducts the prestigious examination to select IAS, IPS and IFS among others, today denied that there was any error in the final results as reported in the media.
According to UPSC, a candidate by the name of V Y Manjunath, son of Yadav Murthy VP, had applied for Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2012.
"He was allotted roll no 538950 and was allotted Bangalore centre for this examination. The candidate had actually appeared from this centre under roll no 538950. However, he has failed to qualify in the Civil Services (Prelim) Examination, 2012," the Commission said.
It is also confirmed from our records that no candidate with this roll number (538950) or with the name (Manjunath V Y) had appeared for the Civil Services Main Examination or the interview, the UPSC said.
24-year-old Manjunath, a resident of Shrirampura in Bangalore, had allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in an under construction building on May 10 after he had left for his friend's house in Kodagu area, police had said.
Manjunath was upset over finding a different name under his roll number in the list of selected candidates in this year's civil services examination, the police had said.
The victim had secured 264th rank in the examination, but in the final results after the interview, a different name was mentioned under his roll number on the list, the police had said.
