A cheque of Rs 2,65,681 was handed over to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by president of Bihar IAS Association Vijay Prakash and secretary Vivek Singh, an official statement said.
The Chief Minister appreciated their kind gesture and appealed to the officials of other services to follow suit.
Kumar asked them to encourage people to construct earthquake-resistant buildings.
He said the maximum number of casualties occur in the incidents of wall and rooftop collapses during quakes and cited the example of Japan where people build quake-resistant structures to minimise loss to property and life.
The Chief Minister had also donated his one-month salary to help affected people.
