Congress bagged 77 seats, followed by AAP 20, SAD 15, BJP 3, Lok Insaf Party (LIP) 2 of the total 117 Assembly seats.
The Malwa region comprises 69 seats as against 23 and 25 in Doaba and Majha, respectively.
Of the 77 seats that Congress won, its candidates romp home to victory on 40 seats in Malwa, 22 in Majha and 15 in Doaba.
In 2012, Congress had got 32 seats from Malwa, 8 from Majha and six from Doaba region.
Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), that hit the electoral arena for Assembly polls for the first time, had been claiming of a wave in favour of the party from Malwa, a region which comprises maximum assembly seats.
However, it managed to get 18 seats in Malwa, two in Doaba and failed to open its account in Majha region.
BJP, whose tally of 12 in 2012 Assembly polls fell to three in 2017, managed to get one each seat from Majha, Malwa and Doaba region.
LIP won its both the seats from Malwa region.
In 2012, SAD had bagged 33 seats from Malwa, 12 in Majha and 11 in Doaba while its ally BJP two in Malwa, five in Majha and five in Doaba.
Major district that falls in Malwa region included Bathinda, Muktsar, Mansa, Patiala, Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Faridkot while in Doaba Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur and those falling in Majha are Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Tarn Taran.
