The government today said Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd (IDPL) would be revived with an investment of more than Rs 450 crore.
Besides, the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research would get a new campus, entailing an investment of Rs 300 crore.
The government has taken up a Rs 900-crore plan for IDPL units here, Rishikesh and Gurgaon and more than 50 per cent of this sum would go towards reviving the company's operations in Hyderabad, Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilisers Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said here today.
IDPL here has 84 buildings, each with an area of 70,000 sq ft to one lakh sq ft, and renovation of the first one with Rs 15 crore is in progress.
"We will develop further in future," Ahir said.
Initially, medicines manufactured here would cater to requirements in Defence hospitals and those offering Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).
"We have taken upon ourselves the responsibility to see that IDPL regains its past glory," he said.
The Minister said 75 acres of land has been secured in Genome Valley here where a new campus would be built for National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), with an investment of Rs 300 crore.
In cooperation with the state government, a pharma park would be established there, he said, adding that fertiliser plant at Ramagundam in Telangana would also be revived.
Fertiliser Corporation of India, National Fertilisers Ltd and Engineers India Ltd had recently formed a joint venture to set up a Rs 5,000-crore ammonia and urea plant there, to be run with gas.
